Spacing Atlas Development Log

Hello. In this post, i will talk about development progress of Spacing Atlas.


Start:

I started as usual. Opening a new project. Called "Space Jam"

I usually pick extraordinary gameplay & game theme for game jams. I use theme different than expected. But since "Space" genre is one of my favourite genre, i decided to make a "Space" themed game.

At first, i wanted to make a space-exploration type game, that you travel between planets using a spaceship. I started by finding planet textures from the internet. Then i realized, it would be a simple game. So i decided to change it a little bit.

After finishing solar system and its mechanics, i found the final idea that i used. It didn't change much during development.


Here are some stages i went while developing

Arrows v1
So many arrows. It looks messy

Arrows v2

This is better. One for Earth, one for Sun, one for closest planet

Arrows final

This was the best. Earth has label on top anyways.

Funny stage

All planets are aligned, first stage of solar system.
